Ghana Cards remain Over 800,000 uncollected – NIA
Ghana Cards - The National Identification Authority (NIA) has disclosed that more than 800,000 printed Ghana Cards remain unclaimed at its regional and district offices nationwide. At a press conference on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, urged individuals who have not yet collected their cards to do so promptly.
"We have registered about 18,777,623 Ghanaians. As of this morning, we have issued over 17,499,800 cards. Out of this number, 822,440 remain uncollected," he stated.
Darlas further indicated that all district offices have received blank cards to print new Ghana Cards.
"We have provided additional blank cards to serve new applicants. No district office in this country can say they do not have blank cards to print Ghana Cards for applicants," he said.
He added that the NIA will conduct an internal audit to determine why such a large number of cards remain uncollected.
"Management is taking steps to investigate the reasons behind the uncollected cards.
"Some individuals, when they didn't receive their cards immediately, went to another district to register again, so, the original card remains in the first office and is counted as uncollected. Others may have passed away, and we are working to identify such cases and update the system accordingly," he noted.
