Case docket on 11 soldiers sent to AG for review - Danyame Assault

Case docket on 11 soldiers sent to AG - The case docket on eleven (11) military personnel suspected to be linked to the alleged assault of three civilians in Danyame, a suburb of Kumasi, has been forwarded to the Attorney General's office in the Ashanti Region for review.

This development follows a court hearing on June 17, 2025, where the prosecutor raised concerns about delays in bringing the accused to court.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com on June 17, 2025, three civilians- Kwame Adu, also known as Ogee; Kwabena Sarfo; and Christian Obiri Yeboah, popularly known as Kofi Yesu, were allegedly arrested by military personnel on accusations of stealing an iPhone on March 28, 2025.

The victims were reportedly apprehended by uniformed military personnel and taken to the 4th Infantry Battalion (4BN) barracks in Kumasi, where they were allegedly subjected to brutal assaults.

Two of the men died from injuries sustained from the ordeal, while the third victim survived to identify the suspects later.

The accused soldiers face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution, supported by military intelligence, disclosed that the suspects were not held in the military guardroom as previously suggested.

Consequently, they requested that the accused be remanded into police custody due to concerns about how the military was handling the case.

The defense argued for the soldiers to remain in military custody, which the court granted.

However, they requested the court to reconsider its decision and remand the accused persons into police custody instead.

The families of the deceased have reiterated their calls for justice and accountability.

Furthermore, the prosecution expressed concern over delays in producing the accused persons in court.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation, assuring that anyone found guilty will face consequences.

Ekume Emmanuel Mawuli Esq, serving as a district magistrate at the Suame District Court, cautioned the military command to strictly adhere to the court’s directives regarding the custody location of the accused.

He warned that failure to comply would result in the remanding of the soldiers into police custody.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for swift action against the perpetrators.

However, the case has been adjourned to July 3, 2025, pending the review by the Attorney General.
