Gumyoko amid Bawku chieftaincy conflict spillover - Over 20 houses torched

At least 12 houses were burnt down last night by unknown assailants in the Gumyoko community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

This is believed to be a spillover of the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in neighbouring Bawku.

According to JoyNews security sources, similar attacks occurred three days earlier, bringing the total number of houses destroyed to over 20. Sources reveal that residents had deserted the Gumyoko community nearly a month ago due to repeated attacks. The assailants allegedly exploited the empty settlement to burn down homes and other properties.

No arrests have been made so far.
